A Story-Poem
I steal
a gold watch
from my brother
and hide it
in a shoe box
under my bed.
God gave him
the watch
after he returned
and asked for forgiveness.
I do not understand.
I have never run
away or questioned
the word of God,
yet, God has not
given me a watch.
My gifts have been
simple items that
I needed but
did not want…
A Story-Poem
I was waiting for God
to pull the plug
on my ventilator
and give me the gift
of eternal life.
But brother Satan had
other ideas. He reminded
God of the violent deeds
I had caused and he
wanted me to follow him
to hell. God paused
in His infinite wisdom
and said He thought
I had a good heart
hidden somewhere…
A Story-Poem
An old man
hides his thoughts
from his children.
They would confine him
to the looney bin
if they knew
what he is planning.
They do not understand
the pain he feels
or the darkness
that fills his heart.
He hides his feelings
from everyone
he encounters on
the morning walks
through town. Only God
has heard his prayers
and plans to welcome
him to heaven
when the time…
A Story-Poem
I listen to God
singing in the shower
and know in my heart
that I will have
a good day exploring
the woods behind
my house. God will
spend the day working
in the shop, building
furniture to be sold
in the city market.
Lately God has been
sad and lonely. So many
of His friends have died.
Some days He does not
get out…
A Story-Poem
I sit alone
on a chair
in a coffee shop
and watch the people
buying coffee,
chatting with friends,
and writing in journals.
I remember how
you sipped your coffee
and licked the crumbs
of the doughnut
off your pink lips
with your tongue.
Sometimes we made up
stories about the people
we watched. And
sometimes we sat
in silence, listening
to our thoughts
bouncing around our heads…
